General Eligibility Requirements

ASFF does not charge a submission fee.

  • Films must not have been submitted to a previous edition of the Alexandria Short Film Festival.
  • The maximum running time is 30 minutes.
  • The festival accepts fiction, documentary and animation films.
  • Films in languages other than Arabic must include English subtitles.
  • If a film is submitted during production, the entry form must clearly state its final title to avoid confusion with a working or rough-cut title.
  • Edition-specific production dates, premiere requirements and deadlines will be published before submissions reopen.
  • The festival may download, convert and securely store submitted materials for internal administration and the Alexandria Short Film Festival archive.
  • Submitted films will not be publicly presented for commercial purposes without the applicable rights or permissions.
  • Selected films may be screened within the festival’s official programmes and competitions in accordance with the applicable submission terms.

Egyptian Student Competition

Eligible Students

Open to students of the High Cinema Institute and media departments at Egyptian public and private universities.

Egyptian Director

The director must be Egyptian or of Egyptian origin.

Maximum 30 Minutes

The film must not exceed 30 minutes.

Official Selection

  • The festival’s programming team reviews submissions and determines the films selected for competition and out-of-competition programmes.
  • Selected filmmakers will be notified by email.
  • Selection results must not be announced before the festival’s official announcement.
  • Once selected, a film may not be withdrawn or screened in a way that conflicts with the submission terms accepted through the official platform.

Selection Committee and Jury

The festival’s programming team reviews all submissions and makes the final decisions regarding selection for competition and out-of-competition programmes.

The festival appoints experienced film professionals from across the Arab world to its juries to determine the festival award winners.

Film Screenings Schedule

A selected film may be screened publicly up to two times. The festival may also hold jury screenings before the opening ceremony, with no more than four screenings in total.

The festival determines the dates and order of screenings.

Additional Terms

  • If a submitter breaches the applicable rules and regulations, the festival may withdraw the film.
  • The festival will not modify or edit the submitted film. Storage and deletion of submitted materials are governed by the applicable submission terms and the festival’s archive procedures.
